Hello
I'm a 50-year-old fan of life, my family, travelling, and Formula 1.
A sales director in the audio-visual industry and a motivational speaker with a view to helping businesses get the most out of their staff.
People buy from me and my business because they like who they deal with, not just because they like what we design for them.
My Story
Growing up, I never knew what I wanted to do in my career. I was one of those kids who just didn't "get" school. I hated it. I struggled through and came out with a few GCSEs and headed straight to work for the summer, before going into college in Milton Keynes, UK, to study Business & Finance.
I worked several jobs until landing a role within a new Tesco store opening in my hometown of Buckingham, where I quickly found my love of speaking with random people and helping them. Before I knew it, I had secured one of just 6 positions in the UK on a 2-year management training course alongside a good friend of mine, Pete.
We worked our backsides off for the next 18 months and both successfully completed the course 6 months earlier than we should have.
It didn't take me long to decide retail was not for me, as I didn't want to not be with friends and family over weekends and holidays. So, I took a hit and a step back and went into an office role on much less money, just to put my college skills into place and see how I got on.
I spent all day on the phone, again loving talking to people. But all I wanted to do was secure one of the few external positions that I looked up to with a few of my colleagues.
Not long into the role, a colleague called Barry announced he was retiring. This left his Midlands external role open for the right person. Thankfully, I was given that opportunity, and I never looked back.
There I was, in my very early 20s, being handed expensive company cars and equipment and being trusted to just be out there on my own, selling products and the business.
Over the next number of years, I progressed and continued loving working from home, driving around the UK, and just being "out there".
I didn't make loads of money, but I did make enough to be happy and live a half-decent life. What did I gain mostly?
Experience...
I was proud to be out there. I was proud to be who I was. I was proud to be the sole face of whatever company employed me.
Eventually, I progressed through roles and am now a hugely proud Sales Director of a growing AV company with a team of excellent people who I love working with every day.
And that's why I wanted to get into helping more businesses in my own time and helping them get their staff into the world of pride and passion for what they're doing.
